We are well into Fall, and while it is sad that the days of waterslides and sunbathing are behind us for the year, it is time to switch our focus and get excited about our fall weather workouts! Here are some tips to you get started:
1 – Embrace the Weather
The hot, humid weather has passed and in its place is fantastic temperatures and cool breezes. This is the perfect opportunity to get outside and soak up some sun and mother nature before winter hits!
2 – Plan Accordingly
When exercising in fall weather, you want to make sure you are planning accordingly. Dress in layers so you can pile on or peel off as the temperature changes or you end up in the shade. Plus, the days are getting shorter and the sun will go down sooner so make sure you are visible, as well as comfortable. This may even be the time to invest in some visibility bands like the ones at Amphipod.com. Super lightweight and reflective they are perfect when you get caught in the dark mid-run or bike.
3 – Keep Summer Eating Habits
Salads, fruits and vegetables are so easy to eat during the summer but don’t seem as appetizing in the colder weather. Keep those summer eating habits but experiment with different ways to enjoy the foods. Sauteed Kale and Apples is a great example.
4 – Sports
Yes, we discussed getting out and enjoying the milder weather but be creative and think of all the sports that you can ONLY do in milder weather. Lots of outdoor bootcamps and running groups pick back up in the fall and remember, even raking leaves counts as exercise!
5 – Learn to Transition
It is always hard to change up your routine. Help your brain and your body accept and adapt to changing temperatures, clothing, shorter days, time changes and more. The more agile you are to working with the environment you have – the easier it will be to keep consistent in your workouts.
6 – Countdown to Holidays
Get a jump on New Year’s Resolutions now so you aren’t waiting in line on January 1. Plus, you know that you will splurge over the holidays so set yourself up for success by setting a workout/ weightloss goal now to ready for what’s ahead. You’ll be amazed how much progress you can make in the few weeks leading up to the holidays.
These are just a few ideas to help you get excited and motivated for your fall weather workouts. What are your favorite fall workout tips?
