There’s nothing like a warm & cozy bowl of oats to start your day! This Apple Cinnamon combo is one of my favorites and I definitely crave this particular bowl with two of my favorite foods – apples & cinnamon – even more during the fall/winter season. I totally enjoy a good bowl of oatmeal all year round, but there’s something especially comforting about this warm bowl of goodness during the colder months of the year, don’t you think? 🙂
If you follow along on Snapchat (@lauren schwaiger) you see that I typically reserve my oats for high intensity workout days – boxing, namely. Without a doubt, I can feel a difference in my energy level & performance when I fill my tank with a nourishing bowl of slow burning oats. The fiber content alone keeps my stomach full & happy for much longer than say, a green smoothie or a light bowl of fruit & (goat) yogurt.
INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup gluten free oats (I use Bob’s Redmill)
1 organic apple, cored & cut into cute little cubes (I used a pink lady apple)
1 teaspoon, organic coconut oil
cinnamon. about 5 shakes
2 cracks, himalyan salt
METHOD
Add oats + about 1 cup of water to your pot..
Add apple bits & turn heat on med-high, bring to soft boil & then down to a simmer.
Stirring often, until your oats & apples are cooked & softened.
Add in you coconut oil, salt & cinnamon during the last 5 minutes and give a good stir.
I like to cook my oats for a solid 15 minutes. I’m a fan of well cooked, super soft oats! 🙂
Hope you enjoy! Happy Monday – Make it a great week! xx
