When one of my best friends recently got married at The Skylark, an absolutely gorgeous rooftop lounge in the heart of Midtown Manhattan’s Garment District, over the Labor Day weekend, the location of the wedding venue gave my babe & I the perfect opportunity to do one of our favorite things — check out a new hotel, in a semi new-to-me part of NYC. I mentioned in my Photo Diary, here, Midtown isn’t exactly my typical NYC stomping ground — I’m more of a Village, Soho, Chelsea, NoLita, Meatpacking kinda girl. So, checking out midtown’s Garment District was a fun & new NYC experience.
Archer sits on West 38th (between 5th & 6th), just around the corner from beautiful Bryant Park, Times Square, Empire State Building & Herald Square, just to name a few! Archer is a fun & trendy boutique hotel with a perfect mix of casual, upscale vibes. I loved the look & feel of the hotel which I would describe as an eclectic, vintage-y, throw back to old New York with an industrial/rustic modern flair. (is that even a design/decor category??) So, I’ll just jump right in & say that one of my favorite parts of Archer, would be the rooftop bar, Spyglass, (I mean, who doesn’t love a great rooftop bar!?) which is located on the 22nd floor, with one seriously sweet view of Empire State, among other things.
About our Room…
We booked the Archer King Empire View. The room/bathroom is small, albeit, beautifully decorated & well appointed. P.S. this IS New York we’re talking about AND how much time do you really spend in the room anyway, right? Empire View. Check. Exposed Brick. Check. Delicious bath products. Check. (Malin & Goetz, to be exact) Nespresso coffee. Check. And that fabulous, five-star bedding they speak of on the website — its pretty amazing.
Memorable Touches…
– Sweet treats like chocolate truffles & baked goodies delivered to your room daily.
– When I asked for extra moisturizer, I was given a bag full of Malin & Goetz products.
– Shuba. The only reason I remember this is because when I asked his name, his reply… “Shuba, like Shubadoo.” lol Super friendly & hilarious, treat of bartender at Spyglass.
– Shoutout to Matthew (I promised a mention) at the front desk for getting me access to the rooftop to snap some pics while it was closed.
Misses…
Archer could use a bit of improving when it comes to the coffee. On my first morning, I initially ordered a simple cup of coffee with a side of (almond) milk — which came out cold. I think it should be standard that a side of milk with coffee should come out warmed. Next day, I ordered a latte and that wasn’t much better. I figured this was worth the mention for the other coffee lovers of the world. But, honestly, this would be my one & only complaint.
The entire staff was incredibly friendly & super helpful from the moment I hopped out of my Uber to the moment my boyfriend & I checked out. If your planning a trip up to the city anytime soon, perhaps you’ll stay with the dashing Archer himself! xx
Much Love,
The lobby’s Bugatti Bar is a great, chill spot to pull up to for a cocktail, glass of wine or lite bite. I totally loved the garage door in this space, to create that delightful indoor/outdoor vibe.
