Eek! I got braces. ICYMI on my IG Feed & Stories, I decided to get braces about 6 weeks ago. I have been SO lucky to have never worn braces & have naturally straight teeth my whole life. But…I started clenching pretty badly about 4-5 years ago and all the pressure from doing so caused my teeth to move & shift around quite a bit. I’ve been thinking about getting braces or Invisalign for well over a year and decided it was time to pull the trigger and go for it! I figured I waited long enough and my teeth would only continue to move and effect the appearance of my smile more & more. There were literally only 2 teeth that had noticeably been pushed/moved around and caused me to become self conscious about my smile, but I can’t fix just 2 teeth — so braces it is!
Ultimately, I decided to go with braces over Invisalign for a number of reasons – you can tune into my “braces” highlight on my Instagram – but in general, Invisalign just isn’t practical for me/my lifestyle. Invisalign requires you to wear your trays for 22 hours a day — you can’t eat with them, can’t drink warm/hot liquids or any colored liquids. All that being said, I would fail immediately. {LOL} I drink all the coffee/tea/wine and I’m always out & about for social events or long dinners with Adam + family & friends.
The last 6+ weeks with these things in my mouth has been, to say the least, quite the adjustment! The first 7 – 10 days were awful. However, I still stand by my decision to go with braces vs. Invisalign. My braces are actually a product called 6 Month Smiles, a completely clear method to wearing braces and as you can gather from the name, take a lot less time than traditional braces. With 6 Month Smiles, you achieve the results your looking for in about 6 – 9 months. I’ve already seen such a difference in my teeth in less than 2 months and I can’t wait to see the changes that take place by month 6! I’m hoping I don’t have to go beyond 6 months, but the fact that I can straighten my smile in 6ish months, rather than 18 – 24 months is pretty awesome! For any local readers, I’m working with Dr. Chris Bowman and I’m super happy with his care & staff so far.
I have a long way to go, but I wanted to write a quick post just to share that I got braces, in the first place. I am keeping track of all the changes from month to month and vlogging about my experience as well! So stay tuned and I’m anxiously awaiting the {hopefully} 6 month mark and to share the final results with you all! xx
