Last Saturday morning, my babe and I hopped in the car to make the drive up to Raleigh for the weekend to celebrate his birthday with his family + a little weekend getaway for us at the retreat-like Umstead Hotel & Spa. This was our second time staying at The Umstead, but our first time was such a quick trip, I feel like we basically checked in & checked right back out. This time around, we stayed for 2 nights and had a chance to really enjoy the hotel, our room, pool, walk around the lake + a long & lovely Sunday dinner on the peaceful veranda.
We arrived at the hotel around 2pm on Saturday and pretty much dropped our bags, (and our clothes) immediately changing into our suits and headed down to the pool! A few hours of lounging x a couple mixed berry mojitos later, it was time to head back upstairs to get showered and ready for dinner at One Restaurant. (this will be a separate post)
Sunday morning started with coffee, fresh squeezed OJ (for him) & Grapefruit Juice (for moi) this yummy fruit plate + this tempting selection of pastries that somehow winded up on our breakfast order. lol Seriously tho, I didn’t order it…but my bf was not complaining and helped himself to a couple goodies while we got ready to head over to his parents house for family brunch and spend time with his brother’s family.
After playing with his adorable niece & nephew outside, we made our way inside for a yummy brunch that my bf’s mom so sweetly prepared for everyone. His family eats really healthy as well + and they are mostly gluten-free, too! She had such a nice spread of fruit salad, organic chicken sausage & bacon, melon, an omelette station with lots of veggies to choose from + made this so-delicious gluten-free apple cake from the Cooking for Isaiah Cookbook! You guys, this cake was SO YUM. And you would never know it was gluten-free.
We headed back to the hotel around 1230, walked around the lake, snapped some outfit pics and then headed up to the room to change into our suits and make our way back down to the pool to enjoy the rest of the gorgeous day!
loved these frozen grapes that were handed out by the pool. such a nice touch
We finally got our butts off our lounge chairs around 430, back to the room to relax a bit & shower up for dinner. We thought about working out but decided not to. This was the first weekend in I don’t know how long that I didn’t workout and honestly, it felt so good.
My boyfriends parents met us for an early dinner at the hotel on Sunday evening. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful night to sit outside on the beautiful & relaxing veranda, over a yummy meal & drinks with my favorite people.
